Malachite Goudie-Groat,

Communications Lead

Malachite is a Métis person with mixed ancestry who has navigated different barriers and situations throughout life due to having many intersecting identities. Having dealt with their own diagnosis since Malachite’s teenage years and what came with it, Malachite became familiar with the barriers and stigma that surrounded mental health and has used that knowledge to try to advocate for others in various ways. Malachite’s passion has always been to learn and challenge what they know and as a result has gained a wide range of skills and education, from culinary skills to social work and some tech knowledge in between. Recently, Malachite completed their Bachelor of Social Work through UBC, which is what led them to realize that they wanted to find a way to help contribute to systemic change in any way that they could. Malachite hopes that with this work they can contribute to change and help honour the stories, voices, and experiences of those who have been, and may continue to be, impacted by the Mental Health Act in BC.
