Aman Sharma,

Engagement Director

Stories provide the fuel, power, and vehicle for Aman’s movement through life, so you’ll find him either reading, watching, telling, or listening for stories at every opportunity. His own narrative has seen him in a bunch of common working roles (farm labourer, shoe salesperson, administrative assistant) that have contained their own rich tales. To support his fascination with stories (and after many years of trying), Aman completed a BA from UBC in English and Anthropology. However, after working through a BSW at UVic and becoming a clinical social worker working in mental health, a number of individuals, families, and communities opened his eyes to different ways of thinking about stories. The wisdom from these folks showed Aman that Health Justice had the potential to do amazing things, and he joined the team in 2020. Since his arrival, he has tried to incorporate the subtle lessons of rock-picking and administrative assistance into his current role, but mostly he has had the privilege of hearing stories from people around the province to help drive the work of the organization. In the meantime, Aman also recently completed an MSW from UVic, where his thesis worked with (can you guess?) stories using an autoethnographic methodology.
