“No weapons, no handcuffs”: submission to the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act

Health Justice provided a submission to the Legislative Assembly’s Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act. Among other issues, the Committee is reviewing the role of police in mental health-related issues, including their role under the Mental Health Act. In the submission, we advocate for a non-police mental health crisis response service in BC in order to meaningfully support the dignity and wellbeing of people in need of support.

Content warning: the submission contains descriptions of violent police interactions.
