Nousha Bayrami,

Nousha first got involved with Health Justice as a member of the Lived Experience Experts Group and now as a peer researcher. For over a decade, they worked alongside folx with experiences of gender-based violence, poverty, and institutionalization. They work with an anti-oppressive lens and provide care using a person-centred and trauma-informed approach. Nousha is committed to justice and equity for everyone and believes this work depends on the inclusion and leadership of people with lived and living experience. Since 2020, their focus has transitioned to education and advocacy for systemic change to improve the rights of people who experience coercive and involuntary treatment under BC’s Mental Health Act.

Nousha is a grateful uninvited guest living on the unceded territories of the  xʷməθkʷəy̓əm  (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations of the Coast Salish people. They cohabitate and go on slow walks with their tiny older dog Mishky, who is also disabled. Nousha holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of British Columbia. These days, they’re learning more about their ancestry and culture, enjoy caring for their plants, and cackling over memes.
